Progressive Slots

A progressive slot is a slot that doesn't offer a fixed jackpot, but rather a jackpot that accumulates over time, in proportion to the total amount of bets placed at that particular (network of) slot machine(s).

The largest progressive slot jackpot ever paid out, was an astonishing $ 39,710,826.36 on a MegaBucks slot in the Excalibur (Las Vegas), won in March 2003. MegaBucks is a $1 progressive slot developed by IGT (checkout the jackpot records page on their site).

While it will take a long time before an online casino would be able to pay a large jackpot like that (because they get much less action than their land-based counterparts), jackpots over $1,000,000 are not uncommon. The largest online jackpot paid to date, was a $1,683,526.64 Major Millions jackpot won by Jim L. at the Microgaming powered Lucky Nugget Casino. Major Millions is a progressive slot, which jackpot is fed by all casinos part of Microgaming's Jackpot Madness network.
